Basin Sky-10"x7" watercolour

There is a tangle of dogwood, weeds and choke cherry vines bordering lane.

Sun bright glow radiates past clouds that simmers on steel water.

Frozen basin with fresh fallen snow held in place by shore, rock and land.

Off in the distance two cities; Dartmouth and Halifax tied with a bridge.

Bottoms Up-10"x7" watercolour

Bottoms up, three, four ducks down, mooning.

Flowing like corks with their flippered feet a flapping.

Popping up for a moment's breath then down again.

The current is swift and fast, just breath.

Jogged Ducks-10"x7" watercolour

Along a path that winds by the shore there is a small bridge over a stream.

Ducks bath unseen until a disturbance.

Startled birds explode into a flapping quacking escape.

Rhythmic pulsing beat of his feet, the jogger doesn't notice.

Swan Majesty-10"x7" watercolour

There at the mouth of the river as it drains into the basin is a house named Swan.

A quacking crowd parts, with regal measured steps her majesty presents herself.

There were three now one: her mate and off spring drowned, caught in fishing lines.

She is alone now, a swan among ducks, she has splendour and place, Queen.

Duck Hideaway -10"x7" watercolour

Cat tail screen behind a small hill with a babbling black winter stream.

Private from condos and walking path; ducks bath.

This is their recluse, their spa away from the quacking crowd.

Only a light pattern reveals their movement in their own escape.

Crow Reflection -10"x7" watercolour

Across and over the railroad tracks is an abandoned battered building.

Tap, tap, tap... on the glass followed by flapping and fluttering.

Graffiti sprawled and sprayed wall, windows mirrored crow's reflection.

He stays with his image as a constant companion.

Thicket of Lace-10"x7" watercolour

Tranquil thicket dressed with winter lace.

Boughs frothed weighed heavy with snow.

Startled red breast of robin looking for his perch.

Uncovers a group gathering of chickadees hidden feasting on berries.

Arguing blue jays take no notice, dark clean stream runs through.

Lone Boat -10"x7" watercolour

Gold sun hit glass over barbed wire tangle of vines.

Lone boat she appears cradled on mount pointing to frozen waves of the basin.

This one she remains in a empty marina once filled but now closed.

She being separate and apart shows her grace with the reflections on hull and glass.

Warm light poking through clouds onto ice behind her.
